Description
This authentic hoisin sauce recipe is rich in flavour and spices. Made with your own homemade Chinese Five Spice and prunes. Made in minutes in the Thermomix
Ingredients
1 star anise
¼ teaspoon fennel seeds
5 peppercorns
2 whole cloves
1 cinnamon stick
2 cloves garlic
1 inch cube ginger
200g soft prunes
40g apple cider vinegar
10g sesame oil
300g honey
200g soy sauce
100g water
15g cornflour
2 teaspoons sweet chilli sauce
Instructions
Place the star anise, fennel seeds, peppercorns, cloves and cinnamon stick in the TM bowl. Grind 5 seconds, speed 10. Scrape down and grind again 10 seconds, speed 10.
Add the garlic and ginger and mince with the spices 5 seconds, speed 10. Scrape down and mince again 3 seconds, speed 8.
Add the remaining ingredients except the cornflour and place the lid of the TM with the simmering basket on top. Cook 5 minutes, 100˚C, speed 2.
Mix the cornflour with some of the liquid from the TM bowl until smooth. Add to the remaining ingredients. Simmer 6 minutes, 80˚C, speed 2.
Blend 10 seconds, Speed 8 or until well combined.
Store in a sterilised air tight jar in the fridge until required.
Notes
While I recommend grinding your own spices, you may use ready made Chinese Five Spice by substituting the spices with 2 teaspoons Chinese spice.
